On 11 October 2014, Shri Narendra Modi issued guidelines to all the MPs at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi that each MP should take a pledge to develop one model village in his/her constituency by the year 2016 and two more villages by 2019. The target was to develop three Adarsh Grams by March 2019, of which one was to be achieved by 2016. Thereafter, five such Adarsh Grams (per year) should be selected and developed by 2024. In which along with the basic facilities of the villages, attention is also to be paid towards agriculture, animal husbandry, cottage industry, employment etc.
